In an alternate timeline, Goku dies from a viral heart disease, rendering him unrevivable with the Dragon Balls. Six months later, Earth’s guardian, Kami, dies, and the Dragon Balls are rendered unusable. Thirteen years later, most humanity is killed by the Androids, and Gohan, the sole survivor, fails to defeat them. He trains Trunks, the adolescent son of Vegeta and Bulma, who struggles to become a Super Saiyan. They confront the Androids at an amusement park, but are defeated. Gohan loses his arm in the battle and uses the Senzu bean to heal Trunks. Trunks, overwhelmed by despair, becomes a Super Saiyan. Three years later, Trunks fights the Androids alone, but is defeated and almost killed. After recovering from injuries, Trunks uses Bulma’s time machine to travel twenty years to the past and give Goku the cure for his heart virus, hoping to discover something in the past that will help them defeat the Androids when he returns.
